Hang in There

I think that the best way to handle dating is to take it or leave it. If the dating scene just isn’t going your way, no big deal, stay out of it for two months and return when there’s more people that are getting over a break up, or just coming back from their ‘me’ time. Dating is like those game shows where they have to jump through obstacles.  If the contestant is sly and patient enough, they can see when the right time is to jump through the hoop or swinging blade of doom, or in this case, dating.

A buddy once told me that there isn’t much need in the dating scene because eventually someone more pathetic will find you.   He’s pretty much a jerk so I didn’t put too much into what he said, however, if you do end up waiting, someone that is looking will find you.  At the point where everything seems to be going terribly and that it is not going to ever look up, the only thing that can be done is to stand your ground against apathy, becoming jaded and well, weeping into your pillow every night.

So take a break, it won’t hurt anything.  If you keep plugging away at the keyboard every night in a desperate attempt to find someone, well then it ends up being like the slot machine theory.  If you walk away from the slot machines with your money, but you keep having that feeling that you are going to win, well you will keep going back.  Then you will lose your money and feel bad.  However, if you decide that it is all based on luck, then you control the timing, not the slot machine.  I’m not sure that’s the best example, maybe I was thinking of the one where if a tree falls in the woods and you aren’t there, does it make a sound?  The point is; you can take a break, if the love of your life shows up while you are away, then great, you can send her a message when you get back.

Take a break sometimes from dating.  Go do something for yourself or hang out with a friend.  If all you do is try to find someone to date, then you will become dull and they won’t want to date you anyway.

Getting More Replies When You Date Online

Dating online can be very difficult. This is especially true of sending messages. When you send a first message, they will be getting a first impression of you, so it is important to make sure you do a good job. If you want people to reply to your online dating messages, there are some tips you can follow to ensure success. Here is some advice for getting more replies when using online dating services.

For one, make sure your messages are of an appropriate length! Getting an essay as an introductory message is almost always undesirable. Of course, a simple one-sentence message won’t cut it either. Keep your messages about a paragraph or two when you are sending a first email. This will make it more likely that they will read the email and reply.

Another good tip is to take their interests into account. As much as people don’t like to admit it, almost everyone likes to talk about themselves. And it’s not a bad thing. Read their profile for interesting hobbies or interests that they may have and mention them in your first message.

Finally, learn to ask good questions when you decide to send a first message. This can be the key to getting replies. A good question might refer to their hobbies (see the above tip) or a non-personal event from their past. Travel experiences or school might work well for this.

How to Write a Good Profile for Online Dating

When dating online, your profile is very important. This is your chance to make a good first impression with a potential partner, so it is important to fill it out properly and with care. These are some tips for ensuring that your profile will stand out and leave a good impression.

Firstly, when writing a profile, make sure you are very honest. You don’t have to share everything, but you shouldn’t fabricate details or information about yourself. However, you should list the things that you think make you an interesting and different person. With thousands of profiles online, it helps to have information that stands out. If you have interesting hobbies, this is your chance to list them, but don’t neglect popular things as well. It is also a good idea to write with a sense of humor.  Be witty and funny, but try not to come across as a total goofball. Some professionalism is good in online dating.

When you upload your picture online, make sure they are updated and clear. Mysterious photos are almost never attractive; people should have a good idea of what you actually look like based on your photo. Having a smile is a good idea to maintain a positive appearance. Try to make sure that your profile is free of spelling and grammatical errors. As well, you should try and appear confident throughout your profile answers while avoiding indecisive answers to specific profile questions. Improving your profile is one of the best ways to ensure success with online dating services.
